John Frederick Lewis (1804-1876) British of 53 Charlotte st, Portland Place, London was the son of the engraver and landscape painter Frederick Christian Lewis whose German lineage had settled in England. Lewis (Jnr) honed his skills alongside Edwin Landseer in the workshop of Sir Thomas Lawrence,. initially specialising in animal subjects.
