Arthur Devis (1712-1787)Portrait painter born in Lancashire, the eldest of four sons of Anthony Devis, pupil of Peter Tillemans the sporting and topographical landscape artist.
Active in London and Lancashire, exhibited Free Society of Artists 1761-1763, 1767-1770, in 1775 and 1780. Elected president 1768
Died in Brighton on 25th July 1787 and buried in the churchyard of St. Mary's, Paddington.
