Painted of Ivory with a gilt metal surround in an ebonised frame.

The sitter wearing the uniform of the 15th The Royal Hussars, he was in his early 20's.

Reverend Henry Bellairs (1790-1872)At thirteen he served as a Midshipman in HMS 'Spartiate' at Trafalgar, where he was wounded. After this he left the Royal Navy and in 1808 was appointed Cornet in the 15th Hussars, being promoted to Lieutenant in 1809. He resigned from the Army in 1811, studied at Oxford and took Holy Orders, becoming Rural Dean and Honorary Canon of Worcester Cathedral and Chaplain to the Earl of Strafford. He was also a J.P. for the County of Lincoln. He was a founder and Governor of The Cheltenham Ladies College from 1853 until his death in 1872.

He was married and had thirteen children.
