In Murano during the  16th and 17th centuries saw the introduction of enamel decoration to glass, this  involved applying a layer of enamel to the surface of the glass and then firing it in a kiln to create  durable and colorful decoration. Enamel decoration was a popular technique in the Middle East. Like other foreign innovations, it was brought to Murano by Venetian traders. Murano glassmakers quickly adopted this technique and began producing colorful, enameled glassware. Glass with enamel decoration became popular among their rich customers and is still highly valued by collectors.
