A William IV Gentleman's Dressing/Writing Case by Edward's, Manufacturers to His Majesty, 21 King St, Bloomsbury, London.

The Brazilian Rosewood veneered case with brass stringing, recessed campaign style handles and a brass escutcheon to the lid. The red Moroccan leather lined interior fitted with various sterling silver lidded bottles and jars by Archibald Douglas London 1830-31.

Lift out tray, correspondence folder and fitted moroccan leather covered mirror with easel stand.

Original Bramah lock, no key.

David Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury, London established his business in 1813. He was appointed 'writing and dressing case manufacturer to his most gracious majesty' soon after King Willian IV came to the throne in 1830.

The firm earned a Royal Warrant to Queen Victoria and the Royal family. They won a prize for 'excellence of workmanship' for their dressing cases and writing boxes at the Great Exhibition of 1851.

The firm of Edwards was absorbed into Asprey of Bond street in 1858.
