A Minton's Green Cockatrice tea set for one.

Consisting of a teapot, hot water pot, milk jug, sugar basin, cup and saucer and plate.

All decorated in the green cockatrice pattern.

Impressed and printed factory marks.

In 1788 Thomas Minton came to Stoke-Upon-Trent, he bought land, built a house and a factory and was an immediate success.

A cockatrice is a mythical beast, essentially a two-legged dragon, wyvern, or serpent-like creature with a rooster's head. Described by Laurence Breiner as "an ornament in the drama and poetry of the Elizabethans", it was featured prominently in English thought and myth for centuries.
