A rare antique Castleford stoneware teapot and cover decorated in reliefs of neo-classic subjects, Aurore on one side, Hebe on the other. Leaf moulded shaped spout and shaped handle with a castellated top rim moulded with floral roundels with a decorative border below and with a fitted slide in domed cover with a floral bud finial.
Outlined in dark blue enamel
Impressed No.36 to base.
Chip to the top of the thumb rest.

Circa 1810
Castleford, twelve miles from Leeds, established about 1790 by David Dunderdale, for the manufacture of the finer kinds of pottery, especially Queen’s ware and black Egyptian. Mr Dunderdale took into partnership a Mr Plowes, and in 1803 the firm was D. Dunderdale & Co. The works closed in 1820.
